At the "2022 China Rubber Annual Conference" new material forward-looking theme forum held by China Rubber Industry Association in Qingdao, Shandong Province, four experts and professors from Zhuzhou Times New Materials, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Shandong Jingbo Zhongju and Qingdao University of Science and Technology delivered wonderful reports, shared the latest cutting-edge progress and technological breakthroughs in their respective research fields, and had professional exchanges and interactions with the audience.

Yang Jun, a scientist from Zhuzhou Times New Material Technology Co., Ltd., made a report entitled "Research and Development of High-performance Rubber Materials and Their Application Progress in the Field of High-end Equipment" at the meeting.

The report introduces the application progress of domestic silicone rubber, neoprene, EPDM and natural rubber in the fields of rail transit, aviation and super engineering from the aspects of formula design, manufacturing process and product performance, which shows that the successful development of China's high-end equipment is having a huge traction support effect on the high performance of China's rubber materials.

Professor Wang Dynasty of Advanced Elastomer Materials Research Center of Beijing University of Chemical Technology delivered a speech to introduce the research progress of bio-based degradable polyester rubber.

Dynasty said that rubber materials are not degradable, leading to serious environmental pollution problems, especially the world's annual 6 million tons of non-collectable tire wear debris (accounting for more than 10% of plastic microparticles), has caused serious environmental and human health impact. Their team used different bio-based dibasic acids and diols as raw materials, designed and synthesized a variety of new bio-based polyester elastomers through multiple melt polycondensation, and studied and analyzed their properties and potential applications, and made significant progress, such as replacing nitrile rubber and acrylic rubber in the field of oil resistance.

Xu Hongde, chief engineer of Shandong Jingbo Zhongju New Materials Co., Ltd., introduced the development model planning of special synthetic rubber from the perspectives of sustainable industrial development, enterprise new product planning, and bio-based rubber preparation.

According to reports, in terms of the industrialization of bio-based itaconate elastomers, Jingbo Zhongju has built a thousand-ton production line and will achieve mass production in 2022. At the same time, it is planned to plan a 10,000-ton industrial production plant in 2025.

Wang Hui, a professor at the School of Polymer Science and Technology of Qingdao University of Science and Technology and deputy director of Shandong Key Laboratory of Olefin Catalysis and Polymerization, shared the key core technology breakthroughs and industrial applications of high-performance special rubber "hydrogenated nitrile rubber.

Wang Hui said that in view of the defects of high surfactant concentration, increased cost and environmental problems caused by conventional emulsion polymerization system, his team prepared nitrile rubber latex (NBR emulsion) by semi-batch microemulsion polymerization method to control the polymer particle size and effectively reduce the amount of surfactant used.

In view of the unsaturated carbon-carbon double bond (C = C) in the molecular chain of nitrile rubber latex, which will lead to poor stability, thermal oxygen aging, ozone aging and cracking and other defects, the hydrogenated nitrile rubber latex (HNBR emulsion) was successfully prepared by catalytic hydrogenation modification. The technology has been industrialized by Shandong Jingbo Group.
