Dalian Bohai has successfully helped a foreign-invested enterprise achieve domestic substitution for critical rubber components. “We used to worry constantly about being ‘choked’—now we feel much more at ease,” said the company’s procurement manager.

“It’s not that we don’t want to use domestically produced materials—it’s that we don’t dare,” a mechanical engineer confessed. “Although imported rubber compounds are expensive and have long lead times, their performance is stable. While domestic alternatives may come close in laboratory data, once they’re put into real-world operating conditions—especially when it comes to comprehensive performance characteristics like wear resistance, tear resistance, and heat generation control—they tend to fall short, often leading to premature equipment failure and posing far too great a risk.”

This “poor performance reliability” leaves many manufacturing companies in a dilemma: either bear the high costs of imports and supply-chain risks, or put up with uncertain product quality.
